Welcome to Ashtanga Yoga Melbourne! We are dedicated to sharing the transformative practice of Ashtanga yoga through the traditional Mysore-style method. Our aim is to provide you with the time and space to experience the countless benefits that come with this practice.


At Ashtanga Yoga Melbourne, all classes are taught by Karyn Grenfell, a certified instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching the Mysore-style method. Karyn's journey in yoga began when she discovered its incredible capacity to help her cope with stress while working as a nurse in a busy Melbourne hospital. Traveling to Mysore, India, Karyn had the privilege of being taught by the renowned Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, Sharath. Pattabhi Jois subsequently authorized Karyn to spread this method in 2001, and she garnered her Advanced Certificate from Sharathji in 2012, becoming one of the few women in the world to receive this prestigious certification.


Karyn's dedication as a teacher lies in her desire to inspire students to cultivate an enduring commitment to their yoga practice. By consistently attending classes, durable benefits are unlocked, and each individual embarks on a unique and enriching journey.


Beyond her role as a yoga practitioner and instructor, Karyn takes great joy in being a mother, stepmother, baker of sourdough bread, and gardener in her family's community plot. Yoga acts as a stable anchor amidst life's daily fluctuations and imparts tranquility and ease within our ever-changing world.
